Cyclone Separator for Air Particulate Matter Personal Monitoring: A Patent Review

Currently, air pollution is a critical public health problem, which means that the daily measurement of urban quality can be enriched if measured in personalized way. Personal environmental monitoring devices guide population to take action. They track their activities, avoiding situations could affect health, allowing them precisely know they breathe real-time various microenvironments. In this work, we present review cyclonic separation technology patents, such as pre-separators devices. We focused on state-of-the-art commercially available personal devices, classification kinds and cyclone patents gas–particle behaviors. The World Intellectual Property Organization IP’s portal Google Patents search engine were used, using international patent plus mesh terms involving an particulate monitor after predefining inclusion exclusion criteria gas–air cyclones, high efficiency, fine particle separation. Twenty-nine analyzed according main characteristics (e.g., cut point, flow rate, improvement) document. wide range cyclones indicates maximum rate between 0.5 4.5 Lpm lower point 0.8 μm.
